From Joomla 4, you can no longer use PHP versions lower than 7.2. In Joomla 5, the minimum PHP version is 8.1.

Your host needs to use PHP version 7.2.5 or newer to run this version of Joomla.
How can I update the PHP version?
In many cases, you can login to your hosting management environment (such as cPanel, Plesk or DirectAdmin) and update the PHP version there.
If PHP 8.1 or higher is not among your options, you should contact your hosting provider. This PHP version was released in 2021, so you should expect to be able to use it by now.
