How can I update the PHP version to version 7.4 or higher?

In many cases, you can log into your hosting management environment (such as cPanel, Plesk or DirectAdmin) and update the PHP version there.

If PHP 7.4 or higher is not among your options, you should contact your hosting provider.

My website does not work anymore after a PHP update

In the hosting management environment, you can also reset the PHP version so that your website will work again.

Make sure your Joomla version is at least 3.9 before switching to PHP7 or higher.

If you use outdated extensions, you may also encounter error messages. So make sure you always use the latest version.

Are there no updates available? If so, contact the developer of the plugin that gives an error message.

Disable PHP notification

If you are aware of the outdated PHP version and want to hide the notification, go to extensions > plugin management and find the plugin"Quick Icon - PHP Version Check" (or in the English version: Quick Icon - PHP Version Check) and depublish the plugin
