It is true that not every cybercriminal is interested in your website or your users' data. Criminals in real life are not always interested in houses with expensive furnishings either. They sometimes choose vacant properties to set up an ecstasy lab or cannabis plantation.
A poorly maintained website is comparable to an empty building and can be used to send spam or phishing emails or to spread viruses without anyone noticing. In many cases, the consequences only become apparent when Google discovers this and your visitors see a message warning them that your website poses a threat. But by then it's already too late...
So remember: every web space can be of interest to cybercriminals.
That's no problem at all. Even if your website wasn't created by me, I can still offer you maintenance services.
A new WordPress release comes out every few weeks. In addition to new features and bug fixes, these releases also include security improvements. The same applies to the plugins installed on the website. It is therefore of the utmost importance that your website remains up to date.
Even if you don't notice it, a hacker may be active on your website. In this case, your website is not a target in itself, but a means to get visitors to download something so that their computer can be infected or, for example, to obtain credit card information.
Your website is monitored 24 hours a day for unusual file changes. These changes are detected by my monitoring system. When a file is modified, it is often the work of a hacker, and I can take immediate action.
Of course, I can never guarantee 100% that nothing will go wrong with your website. (No one can.) Due to various circumstances, you may need a backup. The best backup extension is Akeeba Backup PRO. It allows you to easily make a copy of your website and database.
But what happens if your website is hacked? You may no longer have access to your backups. That is why it is advisable to store your backups externally. To be on the safe side, I store all backups in my cloud storage. The frequency of backups depends on the activity on your website. In consultation with you, I can set the backups to run automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. I regularly check the backups for errors, because nothing is more annoying than an incomplete backup when you need it. I ensure that there are sufficient backups so that we always have a “clean” backup available.
