Install Joomla

The installation of Joomla 5 consists of 3 (simpler) steps.

In this article, I assume that you have extracted and copied the file "Joomla-xxx-Full_Package.zip" to your server. Also, you have already created a database.

joomla4 install1

In the first step you can choose the language of the installation (this is not the language that will be used later in Joomla, but only for the installation steps).

Also, in the first step you have to enter the website title. This title you can change later in the configuration and is used, among other things, as the prefix or suffix of your page title.

The question whether the website should be displayed offline, known from Joomla 3, you no longer get and this is only set in the configuration. The website description is also no longer prompted. Surely this was better in terms of SEO to always leave blank.

joomla4 install2

In step 2, you will be asked for your login information. You have to provide your full name, username, password and e-mail address.

Your full name is a new field during installation. Nice that you are not named "Super User" by default these days.

The little eye near the password field is also an improvement. Clicking on this eye changes the *** in your password. This way you can see what you are typing and avoid typos. As long as nobody is looking at your password behind your back, there is of course nothing wrong. By default, asterisks are still shown.

joomla4 install3

In the3rd and final step a connection to the database is made. Here you specify the database type, database name, username and password, and database prefix. The question is missing whether you want to backup or delete any old database, but Joomla handles that itself these days. If you use an old database with a different prefix then Joomla leaves the old database. This is also the case with Joomla 3. But use a database with the same data and the same prefix then Joomla always makes a backup of this and he replaces the database with the new installation. This way you never accidentally lose data.

joomla4 install4

After this step Joomla is installed and you can start. However, immediately after installation you do have the option to install additional languages.
