Disable Joomla Update Notification email
Joomla has a default plugin that emails every administrator with superuser privileges when a Joomla update is available. You can think of situations where it is not necessary to send these messages to all administrators or if you are using an external management system, for example, you would prefer to disable these emails altogether.
Before you disable the update notifications first this:
Which plugin sends the Joomla Update Notification emails?
As you can read in the email itself, the emails are not sent by the Joomla software project, but by the Joomla system installed on your web server. To be more specific, the task plugin"Joomla Update Notification" checks for updates and sends the emails. (In Joomla 3 and 4, this is still a system plugin)
Who receives the Joomla Update Notification emails?
By default, this plugin emails all Superuser accounts once a day until the update is implemented and Joomla is up to date again.
How can you disable the Joomla Update Notification emails?
To do this, go to system, then to scheduled tasks.
Here you will see in the overview the plugin with task type "Joomla! update notification". You can disable it by clicking on the check mark (a cross will appear).
Send Joomla Update Notification emails to 1 or more superusers
It is understandable that for a large website with multiple superusers you do not want to send everyone an email with the update notification.
To do this, go to system, then scheduled tasks and open the task "Joomla! update notification".
You can specify multiple email addresses by separating them with a comma, so "email@email.com, email@email.nl"
Note: The email address must match the email address 1 of the superusers on the website in question.
By default, the language of the emails sent is set to "automatic." This means that the language is determined by the language setting of the superuser. In this way it is possible that user A sees the text in English and user B sees the text in Dutch.
In the plugin "system - Joomla Update Notification" you can set the language so that each superuser receives the email in a predetermined language.
Disable Joomla Update Notification emails via user management
It is also possible to disable update notifications via user management. For this you go to users and you go to the corresponding superuser. At this user you will see the option "receive system messages", you can set this to NO and then this user will not receive any more emails. But beware: if you also use the option for visitors to post articles, then this user will no longer receive notification of this either. So with this option, always consider whether you are making the right choice.
How do I change the text of the Joomla Update Notification emails?
Don't mind receiving these emails but would like to change the text of them?
You can do that through system and then Email templates
Here you will see an overview of all emails and you search for Joomla: Update Notification.
To change the text to a specific language click on the little flag.
In the detail screen you can change the text of the subject and content of the email to your liking.
To add dynamic information such as the latest version you can use Tags indicated on the right.
Still not satisfied with the result? Just click on the "restore" buttons on the right side of the screen and everything will be reset to the original text.
