# Customise text with language overrides in Joomla

When you want to change a text in Joomla or an extension, it is recommended to do a language override in Joomla. This prevents a change from being lost during an update.

 
## How do language overrides work in Joomla?

 To do this, you need to go to the admin area and then to**"System > Language Overrides**".

 Click on New

 On the right-hand side, search for the text you want to edit.

 Results will appear under your search.

 Click on the text you want to modify and the Language constant and Text will automatically be copied to the left-hand side of your screen.

 You can change the text as you wish.

 Then click "save" to confirm the change.
