# Disable Joomla Update Notification email

Joomla has a plugin by default that emails every administrator with superuser privileges when a Joomla update is available. You can think of situations where it is not necessary to send these messages to all administrators or if you use an external management system, for example, you would prefer to disable these emails altogether.

Before you disable update notifications, let me say this:

Joomla sends the message because an update is available. It is recommended to update your website as soon as possible when possible. If you do not do this, serious security problems may occur and your website could be hacked. So disable the Joomla update notifications as a conscious choice and estimate the consequences yourself when you no longer receive these emails.

## Which plugin sends the Joomla Update Notification emails?

As you can read in the email itself, the emails are not sent by the Joomla software project, but by the Joomla system installed on your web server. To be more specific, the task plugin**"Joomla Update Notification"**checks for updates and sends the emails. (In Joomla 3 and 4, this is still a system plugin)

## Who receives the Joomla Update Notification emails?

By default, this plugin emails **all Superuser accounts** once a day until the update is implemented and Joomla is up to date again.

## How can you disable the Joomla Update Notification emails?

To do this, go to system, then to scheduled tasks.![joomla update notificatie](https://www.joomill.com/images/kennisbank/joomla-update-notificatie.png)

Here, in the overview, you will see the plugin with task type "Joomla! update notification". You can disable it by clicking on the checkmark (a cross will appear)

## Send Joomla Update Notification e-mails to 1 or more superusers

It is understandable that with a large website with multiple superusers, you don't want everyone to receive an email with the update notification.

To do this, go to system, then to scheduled tasks and open the task "Joomla! update notification".

You can specify multiple e-mail addresses by separating them with a comma, i.e. "email@email.com, email@email.nl"

Note: The e-mail address must match the e-mail address 1 of the superusers on the relevant website.

By default, the language of the emails sent is set to "automatic". This means that the language is determined by the language setting of the superuser. This way, it is possible for user A to see the text in English and user B to see the text in Dutch.

In the plugin "system - Joomla Update Notification", you can set the language so that each superuser receives the email in a predetermined language.

## Disable Joomla Update Notification emails via user management

It is also possible to disable update notifications via user management. To do this, go to users and go to the relevant superuser. At this user you will see the option "receive system messages", you can set this to NO and even then this user will no longer receive e-mails. But beware: if you also use the option for visitors to post articles, then this user will no longer receive a notification about this either. So with this option, always consider whether you are making the right choice.

Don't mind receiving these emails but would like to customise their text?

You can do that via system and then Email templates![joomla update email1](https://www.joomill.com/images/kennisbank/joomla-update-email1.png)

You will see an overview of all emails here and search for Joomla: Update Notification.
