# Joomla is not suitable for large companies

*"Joomla is only meant for small websites, right?"*
A question I hear more often than you might think. Many people associate Joomla with hobby projects, small associations or local entrepreneurs. And while the CMS is indeed excellent for that, that absolutely does not do justice to Joomla's capabilities for large organisations.

## Joomla is also suitable for large websites

Joomla is a powerful, flexible and mature content management system that can be used for large and complex websites without any problem. Whether it is about organisations with thousands of pages, large product catalogues, multilingualism or extensive rights structures - Joomla does not shy away from it.

I myself have realised several large projects with Joomla, including websites with thousands of pages of text, images and videos, extensive search functionality and complex user structures. So Joomla's scalability is not just theoretical - it just works really well in practice.

## Why Joomla is particularly interesting for large organisations

There are several reasons why Joomla is interesting for larger companies, institutions and government organisations:

### 1. **Full control and customisation**

Joomla already offers many possibilities by default, but it is also fully customisable. You can set up the CMS exactly as you want - without depending on a closed ecosystem or paid plugins.

### 2. **User-friendly for editors**

With the right configuration, Joomla is very user-friendly for editors, content managers and communication officers. Think of clear user rights, workflows, versions of content and a clear structure of menus and categories.

### 3. **Secure and future-proof**

Joomla is known for its focus on security. There is an active security team, regular updates, and a clear policy for supporting older versions. Ideal for organisations demanding continuity and security.

### 4. **Open source with a strong community**

Because Joomla is open source, you are not tied to one supplier or developer. You retain full ownership of your website and data. Moreover, you benefit from a large, active community that continuously works on improvement, support and innovation.

### 5. **Multilingualism**

Unlike some other CMSs, Joomla offers multilinguality by default - without the need for extra extensions. This is a big advantage for international organisations or governments that want to communicate in multiple languages.

### 6. **Accessibility according to WCAG guidelines**

For government institutions and large companies, digital accessibility is required by law. Joomla is ideally prepared for this. The CMS natively supports clean, semantic code and offers numerous options to comply with **WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines**. In addition, there are templates and extensions available that provide additional tools for accessibility - think keyboard navigation, colour contrast and screen reader support.
If you take accessibility seriously - and you need to these days - Joomla offers a solid foundation.

### 7. **Intranet, extranet and websites**

Joomla is not only suitable for public websites. The CMS is also particularly powerful for intranet environments, member portals or collaboration platforms. Its extensive rights structure and modular structure make this possible.

## Strategic choices are essential

When developing a large Joomla website, it is important to think carefully in advance about the structure of your content, the menu structure, the user roles and the extensions you do or do not want to use. Fortunately, Joomla offers the freedom to tailor this entirely to your organisation's needs.

With a well-thought-out content strategy, a well-designed backend and the right management, you can realise an extremely scalable and maintenance-friendly website with Joomla.

## Joomla is mature and professional

In short: Joomla is not just for the hobbyist or the small entrepreneur. It is a mature CMS that is used worldwide by large companies, government bodies, educational institutions and non-profits.
